Private School: Pre-K through 2nd Grade

Our academic program is currently suspended due to budgetary constraints. We hope to be offering our program again in years to come.

Overview

Ages: Pre-K through 2nd grade

Teacher Student Ratio: Pre-K will have a teacher to student max ratio of 1:6. K-2 will have a teacher to student max ratio of 1:10

Approach: Our private school uses a combination of pedagogical approaches but does not adhere to any one model. We utilize Place-Based education (environmental and community focus, with inquiry-based learning), Montessori methods (hands-on learning, collaborative play with mixed ages, non-direct play), forest school (connection to nature), and Kurt Hahn’s Outward Bound Expeditionary learning (values of a whole person).

“I regard it as the foremost task of education to insure the survival of these qualities: an enterprising curiosity, an undefeatable spirit, tenacity in pursuit, readiness for sensible self denial [and humility], and above all, compassion”

Kurt Hahn

Afternoon outings: Winter season outings will include alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, and snowshoeing; shoulder season outings will be hiking and biking. **We are partnered with the Brighton ski school for weekly ski lessons through the 2021-2022 ski season and held two lessons at the Solitude Nordic Center.

Field Trips and Community Collaborations: At Engelmann we prioritize getting out into our community. Field Trips and partnerships this academic year have and will include Brighton Ski Resort, Tracy Aviary, HawkWatch International, Cottonwood Canyon Foundation at Spruces, TreeUtah, Prival and Arbor Concepts, Natural History Museum of Utah, and Red Butte Gardens. Check back to see how our list of community partners continues to grow!
