Current Academic Calendar:

January 17, 2022: MLK Day

February 21: President’s Day

March 21-26: Spring Break

April 15 & 18: Easter Break

May 27: Last Day

Ages: Pre-K is open to kids aged 3 and 4. Kindergarten-2nd grade will serve kids 5, 6, and 7 year old. All kids will have time together and in their age-appropriate groups.

Teacher Student Ratio: Pre-K will have a teacher to student max ratio of 1:6. K-2 will have a teacher to student max ratio of 1:10

Weekly Options: Pre-K enrollment is offered in 3-day (T, W, Th) or 4.5-day (M-F) per week options. K-2 is offered 4.5 (M-F) days a week.

Approach: Our private school uses a combination of pedagogical approaches but does not adhere to any one model. We utilize Place-Based education (environmental and community focus, with inquiry-based learning), Montessori methods (hands-on learning, collaborative play with mixed ages, non-direct play), forest school (connection to nature), and Kurt Hahn’s Outward Bound Expeditionary learning (values of a whole person).

“I regard it as the foremost task of education to insure the survival of these qualities: an enterprising curiosity, an undefeatable spirit, tenacity in pursuit, readiness for sensible self denial [and humility], and above all, compassion”

Kurt Hahn

Sample Daily Schedule M-TH; Fridays have an ornithology focus for the 2022 Spring semester

8:30am Drop off

Teachers will meet the group to hike the 5 minutes up to our beautiful mountain lodge. Sometimes the hike up becomes a lesson and kids explore the forest for up to an hour!

9-ish am Music and Movement

All ages come together to stretch, move, listen, sing and dance, and discuss our day’s goals and intentions. This will take place outside on the patio with the creek in the background as weather allows, or under the historic beams of the lodge’s open floor plan.

9:30ish Stations and self-directed learning

While minds are fresh students will spend time in an integrated approach to science, art/creativity, writing, mathematics, reading through student-centered interests and teacher guidance.  When students have the most energy and curiosity, we provide the opportunity for them to direct their learning, ask questions, and engage with the stations in the room. Our teachers have directed lesson plans ready for those students interested in more guidance.

10-ish am Snack! a healthy snack to keep the mind engaged and body fueled for learning

10:30 ish Exploration of new material!

This is often when students are most interested in directed learning. An array of activities, experiments, and indoor and outdoor learning to foster creativity, exploration and ingenuity.

Noon Group Lunch

A time where all ages come together for family-style dining. We focus on hygiene, manners, and healthy lifestyles. The children will work together to clean up and discuss healthy choices around food. Storytelling to extend lessons from earlier in the morning and deepen understanding often accompany lunch. (Note- at this time all students bring lunches and snacks daily).

12:30-1:30 Quiet Time, Reading, and Reflection

A time for youngsters to have stories read to them, and a time for the older students to work on reading, story-telling, reading comprehension, and journal writing.

1:30-2:45pm Back to it! Outside- weather depending

After a good meal and time to rest and recuperate, it’s time to head back outside. Depending on the lesson, it will have the backdrop of nature.

3pm: Pick-Up

School wraps up for the day and pick up will stage in the parking lot or a ski area.
